Eligibility and admissions

Some program concentrations have specific educational background requirements. For concentrations that do not, the admission committee evaluates the suitability of each applicant’s educational background on a case-by-case basis.

Additional concentration-specific admission requirements:

  • OBHR concentration: Applicants are expected to have taken undergraduate courses in human resources management or organizational behaviour (or related fields). They are also expected to have taken at least one undergraduate course in statistics for the social sciences (e.g., statistics for management, statistics for psychology).

See Admissions for more information.

Yes. Our program admits candidates from various disciplines, such as (but not limited to) management, science, engineering, social sciences, health sciences, law, and the arts.

Yes, you will be required to enter the contact information of 2 academic referees in the uoZone portal. Your referees will receive an email from the University of Ottawa with a link to a recommendation form to be submitted virtually. The referees should be academic contacts with knowledge of your academic abilities and research potential.

Yes, you can apply for the Telfer MSc in Management (MGT) while in your final year of undergraduate studies.

Any edits required to a submitted application should be sent to the Graduate Student Services Center by email gradudate@telfer.uottawa.ca

Our MSc in Management (MGT) doesn't require professional work experience to apply.

Candidates whose first language is not English must submit ONE of the following to confirm their English proficiency (the test scores cannot be more than two years old as of September 1 of the year of potential entry into the program):

  • Proof of completion within the last five years of a previous degree program in an English language university.
  • Proof of recent prolonged residence and exercise of a profession in an English-speaking country (normally at least four years over the last six years)
  • A score of at least 100 (5) (Internet-based) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
  • A score of at least 7 in at least three of the four Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) tests (Reading, Listening, Writing, Speaking) and at least 6 in the fourth. The General Training IELTS test is not accepted.
  • A score of at least 68 on the Pearson Test of English (Academic) - PTE Academic

Applicants who have completed or are currently completing an undergraduate degree at the University of Ottawa or another Canadian university with a minimum average of 80% (A–) or higher in their last 60 units are not required to submit GMAT or GRE scores.

If you do not meet the above criteria, you are required to take either the GMAT or GRE.

As a triple-crown accredited business school, we rely on these standardized tests as proven measures of academic readiness and potential for success in graduate-level business programs. A competitive GMAT or GRE score is therefore essential for admission if a waiver does not apply.

A four-year undergraduate (honours) degree is required to apply. Some concentrations have additional concentration-specific admission requirements.

See Admissions for more information.

At the time of admission applicants must have a minimum admission average of 75 % (B+) (calculated according to University of Ottawa regulations (last 20 courses)).

Our first consideration deadline is February 1, and the application deadline for international candidates is March 1. Applications submitted or completed after these dates will be reviewed on a rolling basis following the first round of offers in mid-March.

A strong application clearly demonstrates a good fit with the research program and your chosen concentration, shows solid academic preparation, and includes a well‑written statement of research interest that aligns with our faculty’s expertise. If you are applying for the Thesis option, your statement of research interest should also include the name(s) of supervisor(s) you have reached out to for supervision, wheter or not they have confirmed their interest. If you would like tailored guidance on strengthening your application, we encourage you to book an appointment with a recruitment specialist.

Admissions are not processed on a rolling basis. Instead, there are two admission rounds. The first round takes place after the February 1 application deadline. Applicants who submit their materials after February 1 and complete their files thereafter will be considered in the second round.

If you would like tailored guidance on strengthening your application, we encourage you to book an appointment with a recruitment specialist.

You will need to prepare the following documents for upload to your uoZone account:

  • Curriculum vitae (resumé)
  • Statement of research interest
  • Admission test scores (if applicable)
  • Transcripts
  • Official language proficiency test scores (if applicable)
  • Identify 2 academic referees
