Telfer Annual
Research Report 2023-2024
Beyond business
It is my honour to present this report after my first year as vice-dean, research. This past year has been rich in transformative research, thanks to our community of bold, visionary researchers. I am grateful to Telfer professors and graduate research students for contributing to such a dynamic research culture, as well as to Shantanu Dutta, our previous vice-dean, research for his work in paving the way for Telfer’s growth as a research-intensive business school.
Telfer continues to push the boundaries of traditional business studies, as shown by our remarkable impact on, and beyond, the business world. Our investments in professors through hiring, mentoring, supporting and retaining exceptional scholars is paying off, resulting in increases both in research funding and number of publications in leading journals. Our researchers are working to integrate key business concepts into diverse contexts like healthcare, sports, sustainability, community-centered research and more.
In 2023– 2024, we continued to move ahead in support of our vision to build a better Canada. Our vision’s four pillars – greener, healthier, happier and wealthier – guide us as we work to expand the definition of business to encompass a more diverse world. Be it making healthcare more efficient and effective, or ensuring that research considers the lived experiences of people who have traditionally been overlooked, much of the work our researchers are doing supports multiple pillars. For example:
- Professor Ana Maria Peredo hosted the inaugural conference of the International Academy of Research in Indigenous Management and Organization Studies (IARIMOS), creating an opportunity for emerging and experienced scholars to connect and share insights about research “by, for, and with Indigenous communities”.
- We launched the Triple I Laboratory, one of the largest, most technologically advanced behavioural research labs in Canada. The lab provides a space to study social interactions across a variety of settings, including the workplace and the classroom, to test and establish theory-driven intervention strategies that can enhance social inclusion. The lab was a result of a Canada Foundation for Innovation – John R. Evans Leaders Fund and Ontario Research Fund grant received by Telfer researchers Jennifer Dimoff and Jane O’Reilly, in partnership with Meredith Rocchi, a researcher at the Faculty of Arts.
- We introduced the Healthier Consumption Research Unit (HCRU), a group dedicated to providing insights and strategies to allow individuals to make consumption choices that improve their physical, mental and social well-being.
- The Centre for Sustainable Impact (CSIID), a research group focused on sustainability, was instrumental in earning Telfer a Financial Times as an institution committed to a responsible ethos.
At Telfer, we are proud of the innovative, high-impact work of our researchers. Here’s to another year of growing beyond business to build a greener, healthier, happier and wealthier Canada.

Success in Numbers
We are proud to celebrate the successes and accomplishments of Telfer’s vibrant and inclusive research community. Year after year, our researchers continue to broaden their impact and contribute new knowledge for businesses, classrooms and beyond.
Award-Winning Research
Beyond the statistics of research funding, every grant and every award tells a story. With every new project, Telfer researchers demonstrate their passion and dedication to creating knowledge and tools that will help build a better Canada.
In 2023–2024, we continued to achieve a high rate of success on the numerous funding applications submitted. Impressively, we surpassed the national and institutional rates of success for both the Insight Grant and the Insight Development Grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).
Telfer researchers were awarded 14 grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), and two more, one each from the National Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).
The Telfer Research Office is also pleased to congratulate the six School of Management Research Grants (SMRG) recipients, as well as the recipients of our emerging and established researcher awards.

Understanding the practical importance of theories: Meet new professor Lance Ferris

How digital technologies shape and are shaped by organizations: Meet new professor Mayur Joshi

Investigating a new generation of technology: Meet Professor Jasmin Manseau
KNOWLEDGE MOBILIZATION
Knowledge mobilization initiatives allow our research impact to reach beyond academia into the public consciousness. Our researchers are committed to turning discoveries into solutions that address real-world challenges. Through partnerships, conferences, op-eds and more, they work to share their expertise and effect tangible change that will help build a better Canada.
