Gregory Richards, MBA, Ph.D., FCMC, is currently Director of the Executive MBA program, Interim Vice-Dean of Undergraduate and Professional Graduate programs, and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Ottawa. He was previously a visiting professor at the Western Management Development Centre in Denver, Colorado and a member of Peter Senge’s Society for Organizational Learning based at MIT. At the University of Ottawa, he managed the public sector performance management research cluster and continues to manage the IBC Centre for Business Analytics and Performance. He is a Certified Management Consultant (CMC) and a Fellow of the Ontario CMC Institute.
His publications appear in the Journal of Public Administration and Research, the International Journal of Productivity and Performance Management, the Journal of Computer Information Systems and Information and Management. He has also published an edited book on Big Data and Analytics in government and has delivered 50+ conference presentations on the topic of performance measurement and management in the public sector. He has taught courses on strategy formulation and execution, management consulting, strategic human resource management, and organizational behaviour.
Prior to his academic appointment, he was Director of Market Development at Cognos Incorporated, working with leading companies in North America and Europe (for example, Panasonic, Staples, Electrolux, Webex, BASF) and prior to that as a strategy consultant for companies such as Nortel, iStat, Bitflash, and Solectron. He has also worked with federal departments including Finance, House of Commons, Treasury Board Secretariat, Public Service Commission, Western Diversification, and the Canadian Coast Guard. Early in his career, he worked as a public servant at Transport Canada and Consulting and Audit Canada.
