Biography

Simon Altmejd is an assistant professor in artificial intelligence and organization. His research examines the new forms of organizational control that emerge from working with algorithms. Through ethnography, he has applied this perspective to the Canadian trucking industry to theorize how practices involving algorithms reshape blue-collar workers’ autonomy and expertise. His work also focuses on the growing entanglement between human and AI agencies and how that affects the anatomy of organizational knowing.

Before finding a home in academia, Altmejd worked as a design engineer in biomedical research and an innovation consultant in a global management consulting firm. He holds a BEng from McGill University and an MBA from HEC Montréal. Currently, he’s completing a PhD in management at McGill’s Desautels Faculty of Management, in the Strategy and Organization area.
