Biography

Sheldon Weatherstone has taught Financial Accounting, Managerial and Cost Accounting, Auditing Theory, and Accounting Information Systems Auditing at the Undergraduate, MBA, and Executive MBA levels. He currently teaches Special Topics in Financial Accounting, and the penultimate course in the accounting program, Case Studies in Accounting at the Undergraduate level. He is continuously involved in the development of the new Graduate Professional Accounting Diploma program for the Telfer School of Management, and teaches the Audit and Integrated Case course in this CPA program.

His career spans some 37 years, the first seven years of which was spent as a practicing public accountant. The remainder of his career was spent with Export Development Canada as a financial accounting and financial analysis expert, including the last 15 years as the Director of Risk Methodologies, Standards and Systems in the Risk Management Office. He is the author of an awarding winning credits insurance automated approval system which he designed and implemented in 1994. . Sheldon was also instrumental in implementing best practices for improved productivity in various small business credit assessment processes at EDC. He spent 12 years serving on the Moody's Risk Advisor Advisory Group, including 10 years as Chairperson.

While at EDC, Sheldon spent many years teaching and training financing and insurance underwriters the finer art of credit and financial statement analysis which included an understanding of international financial accounting. He was received a meritorious award for his efforts in this area. Since his retirement in 2010, Sheldon has also launched a successful consulting career. He completed a 13 month contract replacing the Chief Audit Executive at Mitel Networks. During this time he presided over two year-end SOX audits which added real life experience to his academic knowledge of public company auditing and SOX compliance theory. Sheldon has also taught as a seminar leader for the School of Accountancy of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario and is currently a Seminar Leader for both the Capstone 1 and Capstone 2 CPA Ontario PEP modules.
