Biography

François Durand (formerly F. Chiocchio) is Full professor of Organizational Behaviour and Human Resource Management at University of Ottawa's Telfer School of Management. He received his PhD in psychology from Université de Montréal in 2002. Since then, he has graduated more than 20 master’s and doctoral students. He was awarded various teaching prizes including the Prize of the Ministry of Education. Before starting his career in academia, Dr. Durand worked in the Canadian federal public service as a project manager. He is one of the only academics certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP)® by the Project Management Institute, as a Conseiller en ressources humaines agréé (CRHA) in Québec by the Ordre des conseillers en ressources humaines agréés and as a Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) in Ontario by the Human Resources Professionals Association.

Research

Dr. Durand's research focuses on teamwork and collaboration within a variety of organizations, but particularly in the healthcare field. He studies the factors that enable teams to be effective and efficient. For example, his work examines how interactions between teammates allow everyone to achieve team objectives, how the socialization of new members takes place and how to manage interpersonal conflicts. He is interested in all types of work teams, particularly project teams responsible for implementing organizational change projects. Throughout his career François Durand was awarded major research funding from Tri-Council agencies and the Project Management Institute. He has published both qualitative and quantitative multilevel research in journals such as Small Group Research, International Journal of Project Management, BMC Health Services Research and Journal of Interprofessional Care.
