In “First report the findings: genuine balance when reporting CTE,” a letter recently published in the Lancet Neurology, Professor Kevin Brand joined several US colleagues to bring a public health perspective to the debate about Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). Identified by patterning of brain tissue, CTE has been associated with neurological disorders, including mood, behavioral, and cognitive modalities. Its apparent link with repeat head trauma such as those experienced by athletes in contact sports has raised major concerns. The authors challenge a viewpoint expressed in an earlier letter published by William Stewart and 60 coauthors.
