Final Report Published on Primary Care Practices

Doug Angus and the Comparison of Models of Primary Health Care (COMP-PC) research team recently published their final report. The Elizabeth Bruyère Research Institute sponsored study, “Practice Organizational Factors that Predict High Quality, Equitable, Efficient and Community Oriented Provision of Primary Care Services in Ontario”, described and compared the performance of four primary care models in Ontario: Fee-for-service, including Family Health Groups; Community Health Centres; Family Health Networks; and Health Service Organizations.

The results of the study confirmed the role of Community Health Centres in serving disadvantaged populations and in providing community oriented care, while also highlighting the differences in care across the sexes, settings (urban/rural) and age groups in all models.  These research findings will help health services managers and policy makers in changing their modes of practice to improve health care service delivery and quality of care.
