Here's everything you need to navigate the admissions process seamlessly.
Admission Criteria
Prior to applying for admission, ensure you meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Completion of all first year and second year courses in your BCom option
- This requirement can be met after applying, but must be satisfied prior to starting the microprogram
- Minimum of two years remaining in your degree
- Must be a full-time student
- Ability to commit up to 20 hours per week
- Have a schedule that allows you to attend all seminars and meetings (e.g., Available on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.)
- Minimum CGPA of 6.5 with minimum grade of B + in Financial Management (ADM 2750 | 2350)
- Proficiency in English, French proficiency is considered an asset
- Not a participant in the Microprogram Management Consulting
- Be willing to travel to Toronto once during the fall term (typically over reading week)
- For CO-OP students, placements must be arranged to be only in the summer if outside of Ottawa. Placements can occur during the fall or winter terms in Ottawa with an understanding that the student is available for all seminars and meetings.
Application Process
Compliance with the program's prerequisites must be verified by validation of the course sequence, carried out in collaboration with an academic advisor. You will be required to submit the validated course sequence upon application.
To access the course sequence, log into Career Launch and complete the following steps:
- Choose “Career and Development Programs” from left-hand menu.
- Click on "Career Development Programs Resources".
- Select " Plan your course sequence for the microprogram Capital Markets”
The information session on the capital markets microprogram will be held at the beginning of March. We invite you to register through Career Launch.
The application period will open after the March information session and will close on March 31 at 11:59 p.m.
Please follow the steps below by accessing Career Launch:
- Choose “Career and Development Programs” from left-hand menu.
- Under “Career Development Programs Resources.
- Click “Apply to the Microprogram Capital Market.”
Please note that you will be required to upload the following documents: your résumé, cover letter, verified course sequence, and an unofficial transcript.
If you are selected for an interview, you will be required to prepare, submit and present a stock pitch. Further details will be shared with the invitation to an interview.
You will be contacted for an interview with the microprogram leadership team including one of the co-directors. This 15-minute interview will assess your knowledge of the microprogram, your ability to work in a team environment, your objectives for completing the microprogram, and your ability to communicate effectively.
Only shortlisted applicants will be invited to proceed to the next stage of the selection process. The interview process will take place in two stages. The first stage will consist of preparing and presenting a deliverable. Following this stage, selected candidates will be invited to participate in an interview.
Selection decisions will be communicated by June 1.

Scholarships
You may be elligible for one of the Desjardins Capital Markets Program Scholarships. These scholarships are uniquely available to admitted members of the microprogram.
You may apply for one or both of the following scholarships:
This scholarship is awarded to two women enrolled in their third or fourth year of the Bachelor of Commerce program (Finance option), and who are participating in the Microprogram Capital Markets.
Eligibility Criteria
The applicant must:
- be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, a person with the protected/refugee status or an international student;
- be a woman;
- be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student in the third or fourth year of the Bachelor of Commerce program (Finance option);
- be a member of the Microprogram Capital Markets at Telfer School of Management of the University of Ottawa; and
- demonstrate academic excellence.
Value of the award: $15,000
Number of awards: Two
This scholarship aims to support a student who is a member of a racialized community, who is enrolled in their third or fourth year of the Bachelor of Commerce program (Finance option), and who is participating in the Microprogram Capital Markets.
Eligibility Criteria
The applicant must:
- be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, a person with the protected/refugee status or an international student;
- be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student in the third or fourth year of the Bachelor of Commerce program (Finance option);
- be a member of the Microprogram Capital Markets at Telfer School of Management of the University of Ottawa;
- be a racialized person (member of a visible minority) defined as a person other than Indigenous (Aboriginal), who is non-white in colour or race, regardless of place of birth or citizenship; and
- demonstrate academic excellence.
