Once you complete Management Foundations 1 and 2 you can select electives that suit your career aspirations or specialize in one of the four concentrations.*

If you choose to complete your MBA without a concentration, in addition to the compulsory courses, choose 12 units from any courses listed within the four concentrations.  Use the drop-down selector to view the electives in each concentration.

Capstone

The Capstone course, MBA 5390 (3 units), draws from everything that you have learned in your foundational courses. It focuses on integrating different types of strategy – corporate, competitive, and functional – to create a coherent plan for organizational success. You will participate in a team-based simulation where you apply a variety of analytical approaches to formulate a strategy for a large global company in a complex environment. In dynamic conditions, you will then react to different competitive moves and changing customer requirements under tight time constraints. In keeping with the program’s focus on responsible management for sustainability, the simulation will incorporate the PRME principles (Note that the Telfer School of Management is a proud signatory).  

Optional internship

Put your knowledge and skills into practice right away. The optional internship, (6 units), would normally be pursued over two terms, but could also be compressed into one.

Students who wish to take the additional internship option will declare that after completing their first term in the program. They will be informed about the process and eligibility criteria during that term.

Our French Professional MBA is also offered over two years if you wish to undertake your studies and remain on the job. Note that our MBA core Courses are offered in a bookend format, you will be expected to attend In-person classes during the first weekend of each block and the last weekend of each block. Delivery modes for elective courses are online unless stated otherwise on the University webpage. (The schedule may be subject to changes)

Note that all mandatory classes for this program are offered in French only; however, students are allowed to submit assignments and answer exam questions in the official language of their choice.

Capstone

The Capstone course, MBA 5790 (3 units), draws from everything that you have learned in your foundational courses. It focuses on integrating different types of strategy – corporate, competitive, and functional – to create a coherent plan for organizational success. You will participate in a team-based simulation where you apply a variety of analytical approaches to formulate a strategy for a large global company in a complex environment. In dynamic conditions, you will then react to different competitive moves and changing customer requirements under tight time constraints. In keeping with the program’s focus on responsible management for sustainability, the simulation will incorporate the PRME principles (Note that the Telfer School of Management is a proud signatory).

Optional Internship

Put your knowledge and skills into practice right away. The optional internship (6 units), would normally be pursued over two terms, but could also be compressed into one.

Students who wish to take the additional internship option will declare that after completing their first term in the program. They will be informed about the process and eligibility criteria during that term.

Industry certifications

Our partnership with CMC-Canada fast-tracks students to the Certified Management Consultant designation.

Areas of Focus Electives

The Telfer MBA offers 5 areas of focus for students wanting to increase their knowledge in one specific area. At least 6 units selected from the available electives are required. Some areas of focus have additional requirements. The table below provides guidance on which elective courses to select. A Letter of Attestation will be provided, upon request, once the requirements of the program have been completed. 

Requirements per area of focus:

  • Finance: Must take Financial Modelling and also certify on the Bloomberg Terminals.
  • Entrepreneurship and Innovation: Must take MBA6262 and MBA6XXX Fianancing New Ventures Part B
  • Management Consulting: Must take both Project Management courses and Customer Relationship Management
  • Business Analytics: Must take Data Science for Managers
  • Public Management: Must take Business Government Relations and Today's Global Business Environment and Strategic Markets
