Emerging Researcher Award 2024 — Jennifer Dimoff

Jennifer Dimoff

The Telfer School of Management is delighted to announce that Professor Jennifer Dimoff is the recipient of the 2024 Emerging Researcher Award. This award recognizes professors making significant strides in research in the early stages of their careers.

Dimoff’s research focuses on workplace mental health. She investigates policies and practices that improve employee well-being, to help employers and organizations identify mental health issues and enable staff to overcome difficulties and thrive in the workplace. She was recently awarded a SSHRC Partnership Engage Grant for a project on how work influences the experience of grief following pregnancy loss and to explore mechanisms that help female employees undergoing pregnancy loss. The impact of her research extends beyond the workplace to a happier and healthier Canada.

Since joining Telfer in 2019, Dimoff has continued to publish in renowned journals and present at top conferences in her field. Her work is widely acknowledged by the academic community and has had significant practical impact. She was promoted to associate professor within four years of her appointment at Telfer, attesting to the quality of her research and teaching.

Dimoff’s research benefits governments and organizations alike. It has transcended geographical borders. The state of California and the United States Army, for example, have both sought her input and implemented her Mental Health Awareness Training (MHAT) and Readiness Supportive Leadership Training (RESULT) programs.

Funding agencies have awarded impressive sums in research grants to support Dimoff’s projects. She has received research funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the U.S. Department of Defense. The broad range of external agencies that have funded Dimoff’s research speaks volumes to the innovation and importance of her scholarship and ability to form strong ties and collaborations in both the academic and non-academic worlds.

Dimoff’s approach to research is also reflected in the role she recently played in launching the Triple I Lab. The lab is one of the first and largest behavioural research labs in Canada funded by a Canada Foundation for Innovation grant. It will facilitate the observation and understanding of social interactions using advanced technologies, to help create training programs that foster inclusion in the workplace.

Dimoff has also been featured in news and media outlets, such as the Financial Post, CBC News and Global News, which have published articles and interviews highlighting her work.

In addition to her research and collaborations, Dimoff is dedicated to guiding the next generation of scholars. She consistently supports her students and showcases their contributions by providing training opportunities and encouraging their contributions as co-authors or co-presenters. Indeed, one of her current PhD students, Mikaila Ortynsky, was awarded the prestigious Ontario Women’s Health Scholars Award.

Congratulations to Professor Dimoff on receiving the 2024 Emerging Researcher Award, in recognition of her exceptional achievements, dedication to research excellence and commitment to mentoring and training students.
