Our 2025 Strategic Plan for a Better Canada

Telfer letter sign with 4-pillar colours

At the Telfer School of Management, Dean Stéphane Brutus has shared our 2025 Strategic Plan that outlines what we will do to better our School and to build a Better Canada. We are committed to the development of strong leaders who can enact positive change, to the creation of new knowledge through research, and to the dissemination of this knowledge through better management practices and policy. This has been the inherent story of our educational institution for over 50 years.

The plan outlines a clear vision that focuses heavily on our four pillars that stem from our Vision for a Better Canada: greener, healthier, happier, and wealthier. With over 400 internal and external stakeholders that contributed to the creation of this plan, the results reflect how much progress we have made to date and how much the world has changed since our last strategic plan and its implementation, which concluded in June 2022. Thank you to our strategic planning leads Professor Murray Kronick, Fellow Certified Management Consultant (FCMC) with over 30 years of experience in management consulting, and Steve Harvey, former Dean of three business schools and member of our last Telfer AACSB peer review team, for leading our consultations. We were pleased to have input from students, faculty members, alumni and community partners that participated in a robust consultation process involving countless group discussions, one-on-one meetings, and an online survey.

The Plan

Our plan reflects our collective commitment to being:

  • Ambitious – setting our sights firmly on becoming one of the best business schools in Canada.
  • Aligned – in our pursuit of a Better Canada and a greener, healthier, happier and wealthier, more prosperous nation for all.
  • Agile – staying focused on what matters in a turbulent world, despite the many changes in our environment, while supporting our people along the way.
  • Accountable – tracking our progress and being accountable to the communities we serve.

From teaching to research, to policy advice and community service, Telfer is committed to unlocking knowledge for a better Canada, disseminating expertise in our portfolio of programs, and enriching the experience of Telfer Nation.

Five Strategic Goals

In addition to the four pillars, five strategic goals have been set with measurable objectives, initiatives, key performance indicators (KPIs), and metrics to propel us toward and measure our success in achieving each goal:

Maintain our reputation for fostering excellence in management research and education in line with our vision and our four pillars

This first goal aims to conserve the quality of research and education at the Telfer School of Management and to make sure it is in line with our vision. Some KPIs identified in relation to this goal includes implementing our ranking strategy and enabling high performance amongst our faculty and staff.

Become one of the top five research-based faculties of business in Canada

At the Telfer School, we have already taken large steps in the research industry over the last several years. The School has taken such great strides in the research field that being a top five faculty in Canada is attainable. We can achieve this through their research institutions, increasing the volume of research articles on the Telfer Knowledge Hub and increasing the number of courses that are integrated with the four pillars.

Provide the richest possible learning experience

We will ensure our students receive a rewarding and enriching experience both in and out of the classroom during their studies. We will continue this initiative through the constant improvement of the undergraduate and graduate programs and an increase in experiential learning activities.

Operate as a healthy, happy, green and prosperous organization

Our goal is to continue shaping the Telfer School in line with our Vision for a Better Canada – a greener, healthier, happier, and wealthier Canada for all – and exemplifying these values in a bilingual contemporary organization as individuals, as units, and as a community. We are integrating the four pillars and business practices that we research and teach into our own organization. The School will continuously strive to not only be a unique and interesting environment for students to learn but also an environment that faculty and staff can thrive in as well. We plan to achieve this by setting service standards for the community and integrating staff seamlessly.

Matter to the communities that we serve

Lastly, our goal is to engage with each of the different groups of people that Telfer serves, such as alumni, students, faculty, and staff. At Telfer, we take pride in enabling the growth and development of Telfer Nation and our wider community. Telfer will continue to engage these groups through consistent relationship-building, inviting the community to our events, and offering support.
