It celebrates those with top-tier publications, a strong history of funding success, and a record of training the next generation of scholars.
Her research tackles some of the most pressing challenges in health care today: how can long-term care homes better adopt and implement technology? How does digital innovation improve care for older adults? How do health organizations build resilience in times of crisis? These questions sit at the heart of her work, and her answers are shaping policy, practice, and care delivery across Canada.
Professor Jaana has secured sustained funding from both the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), supporting projects ranging from IT decision-making in senior care organizations to assistive technology innovations in long-term care homes and the use of social robots to support resident wellbeing. Her work has been published in top peer-reviewed journals including the International Journal of Medical Informatics, the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association, the Journal of Medical Internet Research, and Health Care Management Review, bringing Telfer's research excellence to a global audience. She has also contributed to public discourse through Policy Options, helping translate research insights into accessible conversations for practitioners and policymakers alike.
Professor Jaana has made research training central to her academic mission. As a dedicated supervisor and mentor, she has guided graduate students across MSc, PhD, and MHA programs several of whom have earned recognition in Telfer's internal competitions and secured highly competitive awards such as CIHR Canada Graduate Scholarships and Ontario Graduate Scholarships which speaks highly to the excellence of her mentorship. Beyond supervision, she has served as Director of the PhD Program in Management, where she spearheaded a major curriculum revision including the addition of a new Strategy and Organization field.
