“Taking inspiration from Grandpa” [This link is no longer available]

The bootstrap awards began in 2004 as a way of recognizing entrepreneurs in the early stages of their careers. Bruce Firestone, Entrepreneur-in-residence at the Telfer School, as well as the co-founder of the Ottawa Senators, launched these awards through his charitable foundation Exploriem.org.

This year, the Telfer School is proud to have had 2 alumni and two current student among the winners.

  • Jennifer Butson (BCom 2010) won the Gold Bootstrap Award “Best 20 and Under Startup” for her company Jennifer Lee Promotions.
  • Kyle Braatz (BCom 2009) and Chris Beaudoin (current BCom student) won two Silver Bootstrap awards, “Best Guerrilla Marketing Idea/Social Marketing” and “Most Innovative Social Enterprise Fundraiser” for their company NetGen.ca
  • Mohammad Al Zoubi (current BCom student) was awarded a Silver Bootstrap Award “Micro Business” for his company YouEtch.com.
