Admission criteria

You must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited Canadian school or its equivalent with a minimum average of 70% (B), calculated in accordance with University of Ottawa regulations.

If you don’t meet the minimum academic requirements, you may still be considered if you’ve had substantial managerial responsibilities and at least 10 years’ work experience. You must show strong evidence of management responsibilities and career progression.

You must have a minimum of five years of full-time managerial work experience. We give preference to applicants with more work experience, particularly when they show evidence of management responsibilities and career progression.

You must achieve a minimum of 75% in the required Harvard Modules as indicated below:

N.B. Please note that the EMHA courses are only offered in English.

If you’re admitted, you must read, understand, comment and build on the latest management-related scholarly literature. This literature is overwhelmingly in English, especially in the program’s particular concentration areas. So, although all students can write their course deliverables in either English or French, you must be able to understand, speak and write in English.

If your first language isn’t English, you must submit one of the following to confirm your English proficiency (test scores can’t be more than two years old as of September 1 of the year of you plan to enter the program):

  • Proof of completion within the last five years of a degree program in an English-language university
  • Proof of recent prolonged residence and exercise of a profession in an English-speaking country (normally for at least four of the last six years)
  • A score of at least 100 (Internet-based) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
  • A score of at least 7 in at least three of the four Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) tests (Reading, Listening, Writing, Speaking) and at least 6 in the fourth. We don’t accept the General Training IELTS test.
  • A score of at least 68 on the Pearson Test of English (Academic) — PTE Academic
