On behalf of the Telfer School of Management, I am deeply saddened to announce Professor Emeritus and our former Dean, Gilles Paquet, passed away at age 82 on January 17th, 2019.
Professor Paquet, member of the Order of Canada, Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and of the Royal Society of Arts of London, was the Dean of the Faculty of Administration (now Telfer School of Management) from 1981 to 1988. He had a clear vision for the School and understood the importance of strengthening our relationships in the community and the value of research and the impact it can have on the world of business and management.
We will remember Professor Paquet as a one of a kind character who wasn’t afraid to take risks and speak his mind. He was a prolific economist, communicator, researcher and journalist who impacted not only this school but our community on a local and national level. His legacy will be forever linked to the excellence of this school and the University of Ottawa as a whole.
His research here at the Telfer School of Management focused on industrial economics, governance, and public policy and management. Throughout his career he has authored or edited over 60 books and written over 500 reports, scientific papers or chapters in books on issues pertaining to the economic history of Canada, urban and regional studies, industrial organization, public management, knowledge management, and governance.
As we celebrate the life of this incredible academic icon, the Telfer School of Management Staff, Professors, Students, and Alumni join the family in mourning this truly impactful individual.
Please keep the family of Professor Paquet in your thoughts during this difficult time.
