The Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa is pleased to announce that CMA Ontario has renewed its support with a $75,000 donation. The donation will fund student scholarships and a fellowship award that were created in 2010 thanks to an initial $25,000 donation from CMA Ontario. Over the next three years, these initiatives will assist undergraduate and MBA students, as well as support teaching and research.
CMA became the first professional certification association to offer direct support to a faculty member at the Telfer School of Management last year by awarding a $7,500 CMA Fellowship, recognizing excellence in teaching and research. Professor Rhonda Pyper has been named CMA Fellow for a period of one year (June 1, 2011 to May 31, 2012) and will serve as a direct point of contact for students and the academic community.
On an annual basis, CMA will award two $5,000 MBA scholarships to exceptional students with a background in accounting, and an intention to pursue a CMA designation. Additionally, a $5,000 scholarship will be awarded to an exceptional undergraduate student entering their 4th and final year of the Telfer Bachelor of Commerce Accounting program. Finally, a $2,500 MBA award will be created to highlight the achievements of a student with a background in accounting, who has demonstrated high performance in the MBA Program and who intends to pursue the CMA designation.
“We are very proud to renew our partnership and commitment to support higher education at the Telfer School of Management” said Sharon Armstrong, MBA, CMA,Vice President, Business Development at CMA Ontario. “With this additional donation towards the Telfer School’s faculty and student awards, we are pleased to help further research and excellence in the accounting and management fields.”
“The Telfer School is very grateful to CMA Ontario for the renewal of their gift. Their contribution demonstrates the association’s desire to invest in deserving students and in research and teaching” said François Julien, Dean at the Telfer School.“We are proud to work with CMA Ontario to ensure our students are aware of the merits of the CMA designation, and look forward to continuing our mutually beneficial relationship in the years ahead”.
CMA has an active presence on campus, supporting a number of student clubs and events, including the “Not for Bean Counters” lunch. They are committed to ensuring our students have the information they need to make an informed choice when it comes to their designation.
