The Ontario government and Assemblée de la francophonie de l'Ontario (AFO) co-hosted the Francophonie Awards on October 23, 2010, during the AFO's centennial gala.
Awarded every two years, these awards honour a Francophone and a Francophile who have recently had a significant impact on the political, social, economic or cultural vitality of Ontario's Francophone community. In addition, the new Youth Francophonie Award, created this year, recognized an exceptional Francophone or Francophile under the age of 25.
"The celebrations of the AFO's 100th anniversary represent a unique opportunity to pay tribute to the vibrancy of the Franco-Ontarian community. Thanks to the partnership between the Ontario government and the AFO, the 2010 Francophonie Awards will be hosted as part of this historic milestone" said Madeleine Meilleur, Minister Responsible for Francophone Affairs.
