Wayne Landsman
KPMG Distinguished Professor of Accounting, University of North Carolina
Professor Wayne Landsman is a distinguished scholar whose research centres on the role of accounting information in capital price formation. His work explores critical topics such as pensions, employee stock options, asset securitization, and fair value accounting.
Professor Landsman has published over 70 articles in leading scholarly and professional journals, earning recognition for his significant contributions to the field. His work has been honored with numerous awards from the American Accounting Association (AAA), including the Notable Contribution Award (2012), the Deloitte Foundation Wildman Medal Award (1985 and 2016), and the Financial Accounting and Reporting Section (FARS) Best Paper Award (2000, 2008, and 2014). In 2014, he received the prestigious AAA Outstanding Educator Award.
He has played an active role in the academic community, serving on the editorial boards of The Accounting Review, Management Science, European Accounting Review, and Journal of Business Finance and Accounting. Currently, he is an editor of The Accounting Review. Beyond academia, professor Landsman has also contributed to standard-setting by serving on the Financial Accounting Standards Advisory Council (1998–2001), which advises the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB).
Professor Landsman was president of FARS in 1996–1997. He earned his PhD in business, MBA, and MS in statistics from Stanford University, and graduated magna cum laude in economics from Princeton University.
