Students normally complete the ADM elective requirement of their BCom program by taking courses in one or several management disciplines. The Telfer School of Management offers students the opportunity to earn units though participation in various non-traditional out-of-class activities. These include Directed Readings, the Connexions Program and Case Competitions.

Students are permitted to complete as many as nine (9) ADM elective units among the following activities: Directed Readings (ADM 4998/4999), Connexions Program (ADM 4904/4905), and Case Competitions (ADM 3993/3994/4994).  Moreover the following restrictions apply:

  1. at most 6 units in Directed Readings (ADM 4998/4999);
  2. at most 6 units of Connexions Program (ADM 4904/4905);
  3. at most 9 units of Case Competition (ADM 3993/3994/4994).

Course Descriptions for Case Competitions

ADM3993 Preparation and participation to Business Cases I (3 units)

Preparation for case competitions; application of all the concepts, strategies, and approaches for case analysis. Case preparation and presentation.

Course Component: Lecture 

Prerequisites: All administration (ADM) core courses at 1000 and 2000 levels.

ADM3994 Preparation and participation to Business Cases I (3 units)

Preparation and participation for a case competition. Analysis of a variety of business cases. Training in topics that are specific to the case competition.

Concurrently with ADM 3993, admission is restricted and selection is made by a committee and/or the professor who will coach the case team.

ADM4994 Preparation and participation to Business Cases II (3 units)

Preparation and participation for a case competition. Analysis of a variety of business cases. Training in topics that are specific to the case competition.

Prerequisite: ADM 3994, admission is restricted and selection is made by a committee and/or the professor who will coach the case team.
