Microprogram Business and Sports Analytics

The program

The Microprogram Business and Sports Analytics allows you to pursue a career in business analytics with a focus on the sports industry. Expand your knowledge of sports, recreation, analytics, health and wellness, event management, and marketing to prepare for careers in sports marketing, sports analytics, and athletic performance analysis.

Explore how business and sports analytics intersect to transform data into evidence-based action and to inform decision-making. The Microprogram Business and Sports Analytics is an interdisciplinary program offered by the Telfer School of Management and the Faculty of Health Sciences. The microprogram is available to Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) students and non-degree students and is delivered in both French and English. 

Courses

The Microprogram Business and Sports Analytics consists of four business courses and three human kinetics courses, for a total of 21 units (7 courses).

Complete the Microprogram Business and Sports Analytics with the following structure:

You will use your ADM elective courses to complete the ADM courses and your out-of-faculty electives to complete the APA courses in the microprogram. For example, if you are enrolled in the Business Technology Management option, you would complete three ADM courses in the microprogram as part of your ADM electives.

Admission

Enrol as a BCom student

If you are a BCom student, you will need to request a program change from the Telfer Undergraduate Office to add the Microprogram in Business and Sports Analytics to your degree. It is best to request this change during your first or second year of studies. Program request changes can be made each year between March 1 and June 1.

If you would like to enrol in the microprogram, please fill out the Program Change Request form, which you will find under the Applications tab in your uoZone account.

Enrol as a non-degree student

If you are a non-degree student, you need to meet the following criteria to be eligible to enrol in this microprogram:

  1. Have earned a Canadian high school diploma.

  1. Demonstrate relevant professional experience, including knowledge of mathematics, marketing, and statistics.

Frequently asked questions

General

The microprogram is available in both English and French. 

International students are not eligible to complete the microprogram as a non-degree students because to do so, they would need to be residents of Canada who have received a Canadian high school diploma. 

Yes. The microprogram is primarily available to Telfer students, but it is also open to other University of Ottawa students who can meet the prerequisites. 

BCom students

The microprogram will appear on your transcript but will not be printed on your diploma. Learn more about undergraduate microprograms at uOttawa.

Yes. BCom students can take part in an international exchange while enrolled in this microprogram. Please check with staff at the This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to ensure you can complete all the courses required for your degree.

Yes. BCom students can participate in the French Immersion Stream while enrolled in this microprogram.

Yes. BCom students can take part in the CO-OP program while enrolled in this microprogram.

No. Enrolling in this microprogram will not add courses to your BCom degree.

Students enrolled in two business options cannot add the microprogram to their program. For example, you cannot complete the Marketing option paired with the Finance option as well as the microprogram.

Students enrolled in one business option and an out-of-faculty minor cannot add the microprogram to their program. For example, you would not be able to complete a Management option and a minor in Public Administration as well as the microprogram.

Students who are in the Accounting specialization cannot add this microprogram to their BCom degree.
