Join Research Librarians Allison Smith and Emily Da Silva for an introduction to prompt engineering for generative AI, focusing on practical applications and ethical considerations in an academic context. Participants will gain an understanding of how generative AI integrates with search engines, discover the enterprise features of Microsoft Copilot, and learn best practices for crafting effective prompts. By the end of this session, attendees will be able to…

  • describe the key enterprise features of Microsoft Copilot;
  • summarize the high-level process of how generative AI integrates with search engines to provide responses and apply this understanding to evaluate AI-generated content;
  • construct effective prompts for generative AI tools; and
  • evaluate the ethical implications of using AI in academic research and create guidelines for responsible AI usage in their own work.

Allison Smith and Emily Da Silva are Research Librarians at the Telfer Management Library.
