How To Articulate Theory Contributions in A+ Journals: Telfer Paper Development Workshop
With James Combs
This workshop is being hosted by James Combs and Peter Jaskiwiecz of the Family Enterprise Legacy Institute (FELI) at the Telfer School of Management.
As competition for journal space increases, authors are under increasing pressure to articulate their contribution and “sell” their work to reviewers and editors. To help researchers better articulate contributions, Jim will present a typology of contributions developed from coding the core contribution from the top 25 cited non-meta-analytic empirical papers from five top management journals from 2005, 2010, and 2015. The typology should help researchers (especially in management) name what is being contributed and increase editors’ and reviewers’ ability to pierce the fog of dense writing that often obscures what, if anything, a paper actually contributes. We will also spend time discussing common ways of organizing and presenting a paper introduction. Participants will be invited to submit an introduction and summary of data and empirical results, if any, within a week following the workshop and receive individual feedback 1-2 weeks later.
Coffee and refreshments will be provided, as well as a light lunch. Please advise Kathy Cunningham (kcunning@uottawa.ca) if you have any dietary concerns.
