Telfer Conference on Corporate Finance and Banking
The Telfer School of Management is pleased to be hosting the second annual Telfer Conference on Corporate Finance and Banking.
This conference, which will be held on May 10, 2024, will have leading finance scholars from Canada, the US and the UK, presenting their high-impact research papers studying important issues in corporate finance and banking, such as corporate social responsibilities, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, traditional banks versus Fintech, among others.
It will be a one day conference with two sessions, where 6 papers will be presented.
The morning begins at 8:30 am - coffee, snacks and networking.

The following speakers will be presenting their papers:
Session 1 - 9:00 am: Micah Officer, Professor of Finance at Loyola Marymount University
- Micah is an expert in mergers and acquisitions(M&A) and investments.
Session 2 - 9:50 am: Fred Bereskin, Associate Professor and Richard G. Miller Professor of Finance, Robert J. Trulaske, Sr. College of Business, University of Missouri
- Dr. Fred Bereskin’s research focuses on empirical corporate finance.
Session 3 - 10:40 am: Yiming Qian, Professor and Toscano Family Chair in Finance, University of Connecticut
- Yiming’s research focuses on varying topics in corporate finance, including initial public offerings, mergers and acquisitions, behavioral finance, and emerging markets.
Lunch and Informal Discussion with PhD students - 11:45 am to 1:15 pm
Session 4 - 1:15 pm: Arman Eshraghi, Professor of Finance and Investment, Deputy Head of Section for Research, Impact and Innovation, Cardiff Business School (online presentation)
- Arman's research spans across investments, behavioral finance, corporate finance and financial technology, among other interests.
Session 5 - 2:05 pm: Ting Xu, Assistant Professor of Finance at the University of Toronto, Rotman School of Management
- Ting's research focuses on entrepreneurial finance, innovation, labor and productivity.
Session 6 - 2:55 pm: Selim Topaloglu, Associate Professor and RBC Fellow of Finance, Smith School of Business, Queen's University
- Dr. Topaloglu’s research interests include trading behavior of individuals and institutions, initial public offerings, and analyst behavior.
