The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the true fragility of Canada’s primary care sector. Already facing difficulties finding a family doctor, Canadians are seeing some family medicine practices close and many established doctors considering early retirement. On the other hand, we have also adopted virtual visits and new policies in record time resulting in reduced barriers to access for many. Whichever way you look at it, the pandemic has highlighted the precariousness of our primary care system is.

This panel includes some of Ontario’s most influential physicians, leaders, and researchers. The event will include a brief overview of primary care systems in Ontario, discuss issues of governance, management and integration, and suggest ways to save what is undoubtedly the foundation of our health care system.
