Biographie

David Crick a plus de 30 ans d’expérience en recherche, en enseignement et dans des rôles administratifs au sein d’écoles de gestion, avec six autres années d’expérience à temps plein dans l’industrie et dans divers rôles de consultation. Auparavant, il était professeur en entrepreneuriat international à l’Université Victoria de Wellington, en Nouvelle-Zélande, après deux postes similaires en tant que professeur à temps plein au Royaume-Uni dans des universités à Leicester et à Birmingham. Il a assumé divers rôles administratifs tels que directeur de recherche pour une précédente faculté et chef de section ; il a aussi été évaluateur aux fins de l’agrément pour plusieurs organisations.

Recherche

Les recherches du professeur Crick se situent à l’intersection de l’entrepreneuriat international et du marketing. Les entreprises en démarrage ayant des ressources limitées et un modèle commercial évolutif constituent un domaine d’intérêt particulier dont les processus d’internationalisation et les exigences de soutien des entrepreneurs représentent un aspect essentiel. Ces recherches adoptent une approche holistique vis-à-vis des stratégies entrepreneuriales dans les entreprises qui s’internationalisent, y compris la notion de « coopétition » et de « sérendipité » dans les projets imprévus par rapport aux projets prévus. De plus, les recherches du professeur Crick ont porté sur les entrepreneurs de communautés ethniques minoritaires et les types d’aide dont ils ont besoin. Ses recherches ont aussi eu une grande incidence dans le monde universitaire et celui des praticiens, et il est souvent sollicité pour examiner des documents et des thèses, et pour s’exprimer sur le sujet. Il siège aux comités éditoriaux de plusieurs revues et il a reçu un doctorat de niveau supérieur pour les contributions qu’il a apportées à la recherche.

Enseignement

Son approche pédagogique a privilégié l’apprentissage par l’expérience (dont la validation des modèles commerciaux évolutifs) plutôt que les cours magistraux, y compris la possibilité pour les étudiants de rencontrer de vrais entrepreneurs et des partenaires de réseaux comme des investisseurs providentiels. Dans ses récentes fonctions précédentes, notamment en tant que professeur invité à l’université de Tromso, il a enseigné à des étudiants qui étaient en train de démarrer une entreprise parallèlement à leurs études.
