Notice biographique

Darlene Himick a obtenu un doctorat en comptabilité de l'Université de Calgary et un MBA de l'Université Dalhousie. La professeure Himick a également obtenu un baccalauréat en droit de la Osgoode Hall Law School de l'Université York. Ses centres d'intérêt en enseignement comprennent notamment la comptabilité financière, la théorie comptable et l'analyse des états financiers. À titre d'analyste financière agréée, la professeure Himick a occupé pendant de nombreuses années le poste de conseillère en placements de retraite avant d'entamer sa carrière universitaire. Parmi les nombreux rôles qu'elle assume actuellement, elle est agrégée supérieure de recherche auprès de la Shareholder Association for Research and Education, à Vancouver, en Colombie-Britannique.

Domaines de recherche

La professeure Himick présente régulièrement ses recherches au cours de conférences académiques et de forums de l'industrie. Ses travaux ont été publiés dans des revues comme Accounting, Organizations and Society, European Accounting Review, Auditing and Accountability Journal, Critical Perspectives on Accounting, Journal of Business Ethics et Journal of Management Studies. Sa recherche est axée sur la comptabilité concernant les régimes de retraite, les placements responsables dans les caisses de retraite et le recours à des experts lors de l'établissement de normes. Elle s'intéresse également à l'histoire de la comptabilité et à la profession comptable, plus précisément aux interactions avec la profession actuarielle. La professeure Himick a obtenu un financement du Conseil de recherches en sciences humaines et du Fonds québécois de la recherche sur la société et la culture (FQRSC) pour étudier les enjeux liés à l'utilisation de l'information comptable dans le cadre des régimes de retraite au Canada et aux États-Unis, et à l'émergence d'actionnaires activistes.
