La professeure Orser est professeure titulaire. Elle est aussi professeure Deloitte en gestion des entreprises de croissance. Ses recherches, son enseignement et sa mobilisation se concentrent sur l’entrepreneuriat, la croissance des entreprises et l’autonomisation économique des femmes. Elle est chef intérimaire de la délégation canadienne du Women20 (W20), membre du groupe consultatif du Canada ONU Femmes sur l’émancipation économique, membre du conseil d’administration du Women’s Economic Imperative, membre du comité de rédaction de la revue International Journal of Gender and Entrepreneurship et membre du Global Women’s Entrepreneurship Policy Research Group.
En 2018, Dre Orser a reçu une mention honorable de la part de Startup Canada, avec le prix d’entrepreneur de l’année pour son « impact majeur sur l’entrepreneuriat canadien. » En 2017, elle a été reconnue dans « Canada 150 Women » pour ses « contributions professionnelles et sa posture de modèle innovant et de cheffe de file féministe ». En 2010, elle a été reconnue comme l’une des 100 femmes les plus influentes au Canada (catégorie Champion) par le Réseau des Femmes Exécutives et a reçu le prix World of Difference 100 Award de l’Alliance internationale des femmes.
Elle est l’ancienne présidente du Groupe de travail pour la croissance des entreprises appartenant à des femmes (de 2009 à 2011), un consortium canadien de femmes d’affaires, d’organismes de services, d’universitaires et d’associations sectorielles. Avant de devenir un membre de l’École de gestion Telfer en 2005, elle a été professeure agrégée aux universités Carleton et Ryerson et gestionnaire de programme du Centre of Excellence for Women’s Advancement au Conference Board du Canada.
Domaines de recherche
Barbara Orser mène des recherches liées au féminisme entrepreneurial, à la croissance des petites et moyennes entreprises (PME) et aux politiques publiques. Elle est la coauteure du best-seller Feminine Capital. Unlocking the Power of Women Entrepreneurs (Stanford University Press, 2015), la coauteure de deux livres sur les finances des petites entreprises, et elle a mené un nombre d’études d’envergure sur la croissance des entreprises détenues par des femmes.
Ses travaux ont paru dans plus de 125 revues universitaires et professionnelles, dont Small Business Economics, Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship, Theory & Practice, Journal of Small Business Management, Revue Canadienne des Sciences de l’administration et International Journal of Gender and Entrepreneurship. La qualité de son travail lui a valu des prix d’organismes tels que l’éditeur Emerald Publishing, la Revue Canadienne des Sciences de l’administration, le Conseil canadien des PME et de l’entrepreneuriat et le Conseil international des PME et de l’entrepreneuriat.
