Notice biographique

Michael Mulvey est professeur agrégé en marketing à l’École de gestion Telfer de l’Université d’Ottawa et membre de l’Institut de recherche LIFE. Il a été finaliste deux fois pour le prix d’excellence en enseignement de l’Université d’Ottawa et il a été mis en candidature au concours de TVO pour le meilleur chargé de cours en 2010. De 1996 à 2002 ainsi qu’en 2005 et 2006, il a été professeur à l’Université d’État Rutgers du New Jersey; de 1993 à 1996, il a été professeur à l’Université d’État de la Pennsylvanie; depuis 2006, il est aussi professeur à l’École de gestion de Bucarest. À Rutgers, professeur Mulvey a été nommé GE Teaching Fellow pour son emploi novateur de la technologie en classe. Il a également été trois fois finaliste pour le prix d'excellence en enseignement Paul-Nadler et finaliste pour le prix d’excellence en enseignement Thomas H. Mott.

Domaines de recherche

Les travaux de recherche de M. Mulvey portent sur la façon dont les produits, les marques et les comportements acquièrent une signification personnelle pour le consommateur. Il se spécialise dans l’utilisation de méthodes de recherche qualitative et de l’analyse textuelle pour comprendre le processus de réflexion des consommatrices et consommateurs, et tout particulièrement l’impact de la signification sur la prise de décisions. Ses domaines d’intérêts sont la valeur perçue, le positionnement de l’image de marque, la rhétorique visuelle, le vieillissement et la qualité de vie, ainsi que l’utilisation des forums en ligne pour donner ou solliciter des conseils. Signe de son approche polyvalente s’appuyant sur différentes méthodes, ses travaux ont été publiés dans plusieurs revues de marketing comme Advances in Consumer Research, Industrial Marketing Management, Innovative Marketing, International Journal of Research in Marketing, Journal of Retailing, Journal of Public Policy and Marketing, Qualitative Market Research, de même que dans les pages de publications variées, comme F1000Research, Frontiers in Public Health, The Gerontologist, Journal of Leisure Research et Journal of Travel Research.

Expérience professionnelle

Le professeur Mulvey a été appelé à se prononcer comme témoin expert et consultant sur toutes sortes de questions liées au marketing, au comportement des consommatrices et consommateurs, à l’image de marque et à la publicité. Il compte parmi ses clients la Bank of America, la Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Harrah's Casino, Hilton Hotels, Motorola, le gouvernement de l'État de New York, Panasonic, ShopRite Supermarkets, Toyota et Centraide. Il a en outre été témoin expert auprès de la Cour supérieure de l'Ontario, de la Cour supérieure du Québec, de la Cour fédérale du Canada et du Bureau de la concurrence Canada pour des cas de confusion entre marques, de contrefaçon de marque de commerce et de tromperie en matière de prix. Il a présenté ses travaux dans de nombreux congrès internationaux et met souvent à profit son savoir-faire en tant que commentateur dans les médias.
