We recognize that the COVID-19 crisis has created a new and difficult situation for all of us, including many of our students who may be looking for new opportunities to obtain work experience this summer. In turn, local startups and small businesses are in need of assistance to ensure they not only survive financially, but find a new way to thrive as a business. That is why the Telfer School of Management is partnering with the University of Ottawa’s Entrepreneurship Hub to help small businesses and startups by offering digital marketing internships to students.
Although COVID-19 unravelled so suddenly, the effects of physical distancing have become our new reality that not only impacts us today, but it will also shape the future. Now more than ever, the development of digital marketing strategies will be crucial to business success and growth. Just like the introduction of the Internet gave rise to a new era in the 1990s, so will this new development. A global pandemic is a situation that impacts not just our personal health, but the healthcare industry, government bodies, and the global economy. Shifts in business decision-making and operations will have to occur in order to adapt to current circumstances, and many of these shifts have already taken place.
As a management institution that is training bright new professionals for the business world, we wanted to find our own way to contribute to the Ottawa business community and create new opportunities for our students during this time. Through a partnership with the uOttawa Entrepreneurship Hub, we are able to connect startups in the Startup Garage and Scaleup Garage programs to marketing students at the Telfer School.
About the Internship
The role responsibilities will include assisting in market research, lead generation, collateral development, content creation, social media management, website updates, and analytics reporting. - 8-10 hours per week from home
- Receive mentorship from industry professionals
- Match with a startup based on your application and resume
- Receive 3 credits or volunteer hours that will be logged in your transcript
How to Join the Program
In order to become one of the 10 interns that will be helping Entrepreneurship Hub businesses, you need to apply through the form below. The students that qualify to the Telfer Connexions Program will earn 3 credits towards their degree. Students who do not qualify for Connexions can receive volunteer hours towards the Extracurricular Volunteer Placement program for their co-curricular log, which appears on their transcript.
- You need to have completed the first- and second-year common core courses for your program option at the time of application. View your program requirements.
- You need to have a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 6.0 or higher.
- You must not already be enrolled in the Co-operative Education Program.
- You have a willingness to learn and to be an ambassador of the Telfer School of Management.
