However\,\nthe way in which the expression of anxiety by followers to their\nleaders (FAE) affects leader outcomes is not well understood.\nExtending such perspectives\, we integrate the emotions as social\ninformation (EASI) framework\, to propose that FAE increases leader\nanxiety but also makes the leader feel trusted which has\ncountervailing impacts on leader insomnia and effectiveness. We also\nsuggest that servant leadership functions as a critical contingency\nthat amplifies the impact of FAE on the negative and positive pathways\nto leader outcomes. Our results from a two-wave\, multi-source field\nsurvey study of 286 leader-follower dyads and a pre-registered\nexperiment from 188 leaders showed the countervailing effects of FAE\non leader insomnia and effectiveness. We discuss the theoretical and\npractical implications for research on anxiety\, emotion expression\,\nand leadership.\n\nABOUT THE SPEAKER\n\nDR. BYRON Y.
