X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:Innovative medical treatments have saved a lot of patients’ lives\,\nbut are usually very expensive. This situation will become more severe\nwhen the treatment becomes personalized. With drugs and medical\ntreatments tailored to a subgroup of patients\, their prices will\ninevitability be pushed up even further.  Given the hundreds of new\ntargeted therapies and diagnostics in development\, there simply is not\nenough time and money for us to conduct drug development in the\ntraditional way. Here we proposed a new business model for precision\nmedicine. Early attempt of this business model\, such as the Operation\nWarp Speed for COVID-19 vaccine\, has successfully slashed the time of\ndrug discovery and keep the price under control. \n\nABOUT THE SPEAKER\n\n \n\nQianru (Cheryl) Qi is an Assistant Professor of Finance at the Telfer\nSchool of Management\, University of Ottawa. Before joining Telfer\, she\nhas conducted research and teaching at Fudan University\, New York\nUniversity\, and Duke University. She received her PhD in Financial\nEconomics from the Krannert School of Management at Purdue University.\nShe got her master’s degree in applied mathematics from the\nUniversity of Kaiserslautern\, Germany and her bachelor’s degree from\nBeijing Normal University\, China.\n\nProfessor Qi’s research mainly focuses on financial technology\,\nhealthcare finance\, banking and financial intermediation\, and\ncorporate finance. Her papers have been published in journals such as\n_Management Science _and _Journal of Financial and Quantitative\nAnalysis_.
