Thinking back to your childhood, was there a particular profession you dreamed of entering when you were an adult?
Since I was four years old I dreamed of being the President of China. One early morning, I suddenly woke up from my dream, waved my fist in the air, calling “long live Chairman Mao!” When I was a child, I always wanted to serve the people in my country and to be a big leader and a great hero to the nation.
There are many projects and learning opportunities within the program. What are you looking forward to completing while in the Telfer EMBA Program?
After 11 years of working in the real estate industry, I feel I effectively managed the learning curve and accomplished a lot of what I can learn. I am now looking forward to learning more about business in general. I hope to enhance my knowledge of economics and broaden my horizons in business finance, strategic planning and marketing. I also hope to strengthen my leadership and communication skills.
Is there any not-for-profit organizations or clubs which you support? What draws you to this cause?
Instead of expecting meaningful, fun, gifts, and greetings from family and friends for my birthday in 2013, I wanted to do something for others and our community by using my skills, experience, and strengths. I decided to found the New Immigrant Entrepreneurs Association Canada. I connected business leaders and experts from different business fields to offer free service, support, and guidance to new immigrants who want to start their own businesses in Canada. Through various workshops and networking events, we promoted products and services of newly established businesses. I struggled so much when I started my own business as a new immigrant, I hope my own experience would help newcomers to avoid the mistakes and problems I encountered.
