Thinking back to your childhood, was there a particular profession you dreamed of entering when you were an adult?
From a very young age I thought that I either wanted to be a ballerina or a lawyer and work on Bay Street in Toronto. I studied ballet until my late teens and developed a deep appreciation for the art. While I never became a prima ballerina, my love for dance continues today. With respect to my second dream job - my goal to become a lawyer changed as I grew, but I did end up working on Bay Street as an HR Advisor within a major bank.
There are many compelling reasons to undertake an Executive MBA Program. What is your goal for the Telfer Executive MBA Program?
My background is in human resources (HR). I completed a Master’s of Industrial Relations at Queen’s University and worked as an HR Advisor early in my career. Almost 10 years ago I made a career change and joined our family business. As a family, we hope to expand our company. It is my hope that the knowledge, skills and networks I develop through the Telfer Executive MBA will give me the edge and the confidence to take our business to the next level.
What do you admire in a leader or mentor? Do you have someone who you consider a strong leader or mentor within your life?
Having a strong role model and someone who inspires you is very important. I am lucky to have a wonderful mentor. He is a successful business person who is fearless in his pursuits but kind, fair and generous in all his actions. He has taught me how recognize opportunities, how to be confident and how to see the many sides of a story just to name just a few. A mentor takes the time to share the wealth of knowledge and experience they have gathered throughout their life and my mentor does just that. I am truly lucky that my boss and my mentor is my father.
