Thinking back to your childhood, was there a particular profession you dreamed of entering when you were an adult?
The only job I ever wanted as a kid was to be a long-haul truck driver. My mother would say that I was “truck crazy” and she regretted giving me my first toy truck. Driving truck seemed to be the best job in the world to me. What could be better than driving a big tractor trailer with a big shinny front bumper and exhaust stacks belching plumes of black smoke while chugging down Highway 401. On top of that, the idea of sleeping in a bunk attached to the cab and going somewhere new every day seemed like a perfect fit for me at the time.
There are many compelling reasons to undertake an Executive MBA Program. What is your goal for the Telfer Executive MBA Program?
My goal by taking the Telfer Executive MBA program is to expand my knowledge and experience in business, especially in finance. It’s important for me to expand my network and meet people from a variety of business backgrounds. I know this program will challenge me and I hope to implement all that I learn into my own company. I feel that the Telfer Executive MBA program will benefit me both on a personal and professional level.
What do you admire in a leader or mentor? Do you have someone who you consider a strong leader or mentor within your life?
I’ve had the benefit of working under both good and not-so-good leaders. I’ve always admired leaders that lead by example and would never put anyone in a position in which they would not put themselves. These people tend to be well-grounded and calm in high pressure situations. They can have the ability to bring the best and most out of everyone involved. People enjoy working with them because they are supportive and acknowledge efforts by passing along credit and communicating it to the entire team.
