Thinking back to your childhood, was there a particular profession you dreamed of entering when you were an adult?
As a child I dreamed of being a professional athlete. I loved both golf and hockey so much I actually envisioned playing both sports at the highest level. I was fortunate enough to have very supportive parents and this allowed me to pursue my dreams and it was an amazing pursuit. I think I may have travelled to every small town in Ontario along the way of chasing the dream. This dream taught me what dedication and hard work really means.
What would you say was the turning point in choosing the Telfer Executive MBA?
A major turning point in joining the Executive MBA at Telfer happened last year when I attended one of Professor Hyde's classes. I attended a second year strategy class on a Friday morning and I was very impressed by the class camaraderie and the energy. Every candidate I spoke with commented on how much they were enjoying the program and how it has transformed them. The case that was discussed that day was very interesting and was even relevant to my current role at Loblaw. I knew at that point that I needed to join the program.
What do you admire in a leader or mentor? Do you have someone who you consider a strong leader or mentor within your life?
A leader to me is someone who commands the power and ability to lead a group. The group is not obligated follow but rather wants to follow this person due to their charisma and high level of character. In my life I have been blessed to have grown up with an extraordinary leader. My Dad has always been by my side and showed great strength through tough times in our family. His leadership and support has allowed me to enter this program and accomplish much more in life.
