Rafi Istanbulian

Rafi is there a particular location that you have traveled to which you would highly recommend to others? Is there any particular advice on accommodations, attractions or local cuisine you can suggest?

I have been privileged to visit many countries, for both business and pleasure, and I’m a firm believer in that the experiences I have gained through each trip has expanded my horizons. Of my many favourite destinations, I highly recommend visiting Thailand as it has something to offer for everyone. My day would start with visiting one the many secluded temples for a little quite time and personal reflection. Followed by exploring the flavourful local cuisine, my personal favourite is authentic Tom Kha Gai which can be found almost anywhere, and for desert traditional Thai mango sticky rice. The night markets are also an absolute must where you can pick up a couple of amazingly handcrafted souvenirs, or rent a boat and head out for big game fishing and If you find yourself in Bangkok, don’t miss out on visiting the Lumpinee Muay Thai Boxing Stadium.

Choosing to complete an Executive MBA is a big consideration. What would you say was the turning point for you in choosing to complete the Telfer Executive MBA Program?

What caught my attention intially of the Telfer Executive MBA's study platform was the Signature Series of Six Business Consulting Projects. These projects cover a wide range of topics as well as the opportunity to work on regional assignments. The Telfer Executive MBA’s delivery method,  the high-profile faculty and their extensive alumni network were key factors when comparing schools and making my decision. My turning point however came after meeting the Telfer Executive MBA Team. That is when the bigger picture came together and I was convinced this Program was the right choice for me.

What qualities do you admire in a mentor? Do you have someone you consider a strong mentor in your own life?

I believe what makes a great mentor is the ability to foster an environment of mutual learning and growth that stems from a personal interest in the well being and success of individuals in their circles, both on a personal and professional level, which in turn makes them great leaders. I had a couple of mentors in my life that provided me with directions and insights, and I acknowledge and show appreciation by carrying forward what I have learned.
