When you were young, what did you want be when you grew up?
I grew up near Highway 401 in the small town of Morrisburg, Ontario. Like many small boys, I was fascinated by the big transports that I would see when travelling on the highway. When I was about six years old I remember thinking that one day I would like to be a truck driver. The thought of taking on the open road, all on your own and travelling to new places appeared to be very exciting and adventurous.
I think that idea or perspective of exploring and adventure struck me early and eventually propelled me into the hospitality industry. I have had the opportunity travel extensively and to work in and open hotels all across North America and Asia.
Why did you choose the Telfer Executive MBA?
The need to continually challenge myself to become a more effective executive leader has been a lifelong desire. I seek to strengthen my organizational and executive management experience so I can grow further with my organization as a whole.
The Telfer Executive MBA will better equip me to contribute to this mission via the immediate leveraging of acquired knowledge through a very distinguished and talented faculty. I also look forward to the shared business experiences from a diverse group of executives whose backgrounds span across various industries.
What do you admire in a leader or mentor? Do you have someone who you consider a strong mentor or leader within your life?
The things that I admire most in a mentor are those who lead by example and are passionate about helping those around them develop into better leaders.
I have been fortunate throughout my professional career to work with several dynamic mentors. I always attempted to identify these individuals early to ensure that I took advantage of every opportunity to learn and grow. Those mentorship experiences have helped shape me to be the leader that I am today and I hope to mentor and support others throughout my career.
