Silicon Valley 2017 Blog Series

It is hard to believe that our week in Silicon Valley has already ended and with this, we close the end of the Class of 2018’s first year in the program!
This trip seemed so far away last September when we began the Telfer Executive MBA experience. It is hard to believe it is alread here and gone. Our time here in Silicon Valley has been filled with so much learning, from our clients, to our presenters, to our visits to world leaders in innovation; each moment has been an opportunity for growth.
The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Business Consulting Project helped to build our knowledge and experience in one of the world’s most important ecosystems for innovation and entrepreneurship by allowing us to actually engage in our client`s Silicon Valley environment. This knowledge allowed us to be able to provide solid recommendations to our client, a technology company with a travel-related service, about market segments to engage for subscriptions to their service. This innovative experience along with the executive briefings has changed the way we will look at challenges and opportunities in the future and bring a new perspective to the table when we are back in Ottawa and in our own respective organizations.
While the program’s has maximized the learning experience through multiple executive briefings, true to our cohort, we have also some made time for fun. As Executive MBA candidates we certainly know how to make maximum use of time and this was clearly demonstrated in our ability to infuse many activities into our busy schedule. Bike tours, Alcatraz visits, and a Pier 39 walk; stimulating conversations and delicious food were shared and enjoyed; and, friendships and relationships were created and nurtured. We even found time to embrace the San Francisco night life including baseball games, playoff basketball and some epic karaoke.
Our time spent in Silicon Valley has strengthen our understanding of an innovation, collaboration and for some it has ignited a passion for entrepreneurship. It has given us the chance to reach outside of our small teams and spend quality time bonding as a cohort. Silicon Valley has brought us closer and helped us to better understand each other. As we leave San Francisco, we are heading home to Ottawa knowing that we have the cohort as a team and all the support that we will need to succeed in our second year.
Now, on to the next chapter with our Summer Business Consulting projects!
