Biography

Hien Tran is an associate professor at the Telfer School of Management who specializes in strategy and entrepreneurship. She has published widely in the fields of entrepreneurship, management, and industrial economics in high-impact academic journals, such as Journal of Business Venturing; Industrial and Corporate Change; Corporate Governance: An International Review; and Small Business Economics, among others. In her previous capacity as a lecturer at RMIT University (Australia) and a senior lecturer at Edge Hill University (UK), she taught and coordinated various courses across the management and entrepreneurship discipline. As a researcher, her two years’ experience as a post-doctoral research fellow at the Department of Economics, University of Bologna (Italy) and four years of doctoral research at the School of Social Science, University of Trento (Italy) have given her a solid theoretical background in economics and management, as well as a mastery of empirical analyses of strategies, markets, and industrial sectors. As a practitioner, she has been involved in several international projects (sponsored by NUFFIC and JICA) that focus on training women entrepreneurs and SME managers and on building the research capacity of universities in developing countries.

Her current research is concerned with innovation and entrepreneurship in transition countries and how entrepreneurial knowledge spillover can facilitate trading activities between developed and emerging markets.
