With a little help from my boss: Leadership and workplace mental health

The Telfer School of Management is pleased to invite you for a New Faculty Seminar presented by Assistant Professor Jennifer Dimoff on Wednesday, January 15, 2020, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Mental health problems cost organizations in Canada well over $50 billion annually and are among the leading causes of workplace disability worldwide. Recognizing this, many employers have introduced mental health resources and benefits to better support employees.  Yet, these resources are remarkably underutilized –exacerbating the financial and psychosocial costs of poor employee mental health.

In this talk, Dr. Dimoff will briefly outline some of her research on the role of leaders in supporting employee mental health.  Using multi-method approaches, Dr. Dimoff will present some of her findings on:

  • managers’ experiences related to employee mental health in the workplace;
  • the first other-rated scale to measure strain in the workplace; and
  • one of the only mental health training programs for leaders to result in a positive return-on-investment (ROI)

This talk will be of interest to Human Resource professionals, people interested in workplace interventions, leadership, and mental health, as well as the general public at large.
