The role of the Student Services Centre (SSC) is to guide students throughout their studies, from the time of admission to the Telfer School of Management until graduation.
The SSC offers a variety of services through the Undergraduate Office, the International Exchange Program and Scholarship Program, and the Telfer School’s Career Centre.
The Student Services Centre’s Undergraduate Office is the main point of contact with the Telfer School. We welcome questions regarding studies and can help with anything from course enrolment to option changes. It is also possible to meet with an Academic Specialist to get clarification on academic regulations, course selection and program requirements or to overcome challenges that may arise while studying at the University of Ottawa.
1ST YEAR ADVISING
An initiative implemented in May 2014, our 1st year advising appointments have proven to make a significant and positive impact in the transition of our undergraduate students.
You will be assigned a dedicated Academic Development and Student Retention Specialist that will remain with you for your four years at Telfer. What’s more is that you and your Academic Specialist will have the opportunity to meet in person, either the summer before you begin your undergraduate program or during your first term.
The intention of these appointments is to make an early connection with the incoming Telfer class and properly prepare you with the most appropriate and relevant information you’ll need upon embarking on your undergraduate careers, such as:
- providing you with a friendly face when you have questions;
- explaining the key components of academic life;
- helping you find balance between your academic and social lives by introducing you to the various extra-curricular activities we offer.
During the summer leading up to your first term as a Telfer student, one of our Academic Specialists will be in touch with you to firstly, introduce themselves as your designated resource person and secondly, to invite you to schedule your appointment with them.
We look forward to meeting and getting to know you throughout your time at Telfer!
International Exchanges and Scholarships
Students thinking of studying abroad for a term can come learn more about the Telfer School’s International Exchange Program and consult documentation on our international partners. As you may know, there are scholarships available exclusively for students of the Telfer School. Each scholarship has its own eligibility criteria and deadline. We can show students were to go to find these scholarships and apply to them.
Our Career Centre specializes in offering a variety of services to commerce students. Students can meet with a Career Counsellor to discuss career goals and options, interpret career testing results or discuss a career strategy. They can also develop and improve their résumé, access resources in the library and learn more about the Connexions internship program and upcoming workshops, company information sessions and events.
